Co-founder with Dr Benjamin Cass of Sydney Shoulder Research Institute, Dr Young is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in the treatment of and research into disease and disorders of the shoulder.
Until recently, Dr Young was Senior Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Sydney and a senior member of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital. Dr Young is a regularly invited speaker at shoulder conferences both in Australia and overseas, including being a regular member of the faculty for the renowned Nice Shoulder Course in France.
Dr Young has several publications in international peer-reviewed journals. These papers have reported his research and clinical findings on rotator cuff repair, osteoarthritis, total shoulder replacement, reverse shoulder replacement, management of shoulder trauma and shoulder reconstruction for instability.
Dr Young has a Masters in Sports Medicine from The University of New South Wales and Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Sydney. His doctoral thesis was entitled “Biomechanical, Molecular and Dynamic Biomechanical Properties of Articular Cartilage: Investigations into the Pathophysiology of Osteoarthritis.”
Dr Young supervises the Sydney Shoulder Research Institute Fellowship which is AOA accredited and highly regarded both locally and overseas. As well as teaching while operating with Fellows, he also supports and supervises them in outpatient clinics through Royal North Shore Hospital and participates in the SSRI tutorial program. Dr Young is lead investigator for several research projects within the Institute and always available to assist Fellows develop and pursue their own studies during their year with us.
